There have been so many speculations and predictions for healthy food trends this year. We definitely think Hemp is one of them. Hemp based products - like hemp protein, hemp seeds, hemp oil, hemp clothing (and more) have been on the rise in the recent years, given its extremely beneficial results to our health that everyone is becoming more aware of.
A protein-rich seed, hemp is a complete protein as it contains all the essential amino acids and is also a rich source of essential fats. In addition to that, hemp trees and its seed are very eco-friendly, as they can be grown without using herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides and can replace many materials - plastic and timber and more. Also, it can efficiently absorb carbon dioxide and doesn't need pesticides, fungicides or herbicides to grow.
Hemp protein is a rich source of all essential amino acids that are necessary to meet the protein needs of humans. Hemp oil is also incredibly beneficial to use.
Here are the benefits of consuming hemp products in your daily life.
1. Boosts Immune System
Hemp contains high amounts of two plasma proteins - globulin Edestin and Albumin. It is the highest source of Edestin protein, which is used by the body to create antibodies to maintain the cells shape and form, and build a stronger immune system. This helps to prevent cells from becoming cancerous or to malfunction. Hemp also contains Vitamin E, which is a highly potent antioxidant, that helps neutralize the free radicals caused by an invading sickness. This antioxidant helps to clear up the system while the immune system works on protecting us, resulting in faster recovery from sickness.
2. Has Healthy Fats
Hemp is an exceptionally rich source of essential fatty acids (EFA’s) – omega-6 and omega-3. The omega-6 to omega-3 ratio in hemp seed and hemp seed oil is 3:1, which is considered optimal for human health, necessary for producing energy, strengthening the immune system, improving brain function, regulating organs and glands, supporting child development and maintaining healthy hair, skin and nails. Omega 3 and Omega 6 fats may reduce cholesterol, blood pressure, coronary heart disease and stroke. Hemp also contains the highest source of these healthy fats and is a beneficial alternative to olive oil for a salad dressing.
3. Strengthens Hair, Skin and Nails
Hemp is a natural source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which is beneficial for hair, skin and nails. It also has high amounts of Vitamin E, that helps retain the natural moisture in your skin by being able to penetrate through the skin; compared to clogging your skin, as some oils do. It can promote circulation to the scalp, get to hair roots, and strengthens hair, while also reducing dry flaking or dandruff. Additionally, vitamin E in hemp seed and seed oils in particular evens out skin tone and reduces blotchiness.
4. Reduces Inflammation
Albumin, one of the proteins found in hemp helps reduce inflammation, swollen joints or bloating. It further helps cells repair themselves efficiently. The body also uses albumin to remove hormones such as cortisol, reducing stress factors after a stressful event (leads to faster recovery).-
5. Great Source of Protein
Hemp is a complete protein source as it contains all essential amino acids to repair muscle tissue. About 25% of calories in hemp seeds are from protein, and the digestibility of hemp protein is also shown to be smooth, causing little to no issues; which is better than protein from many grains, nuts and legumes, like pea protein and rice protein.
6. Improves Digestion
Whole hemp seeds are a rich source of both soluble (20%) and insoluble (80%) fiber. Soluble fiber forms a gel-like substance in the gut and is a valuable source of nutrients for the beneficial digestive bacteria, and may also reduce spikes in blood sugar and regulate cholesterol levels. Insoluble fiber adds bulk to fecal matter and may help food and waste pass through the gut. This further helps with the health of your skin and heart.
7. No Allergens
Hemp protein is considered to be hypoallergenic as it contains edestin, which is similar to the human body’s own globular proteins found in the blood. This makes hemp extremely digestible, and also a good substitute for other grains. Hemp is also verified gluten free.
